Newcastle vs Manchester City: The Champions Man City will travel to Newcastle United to St James’ Park for playing the gameweek 24 of Premier League.

Rafa Benitez Coach of Newcastle will have to live up to his reputation as a tactical mastermind if Newcastle United are going to prevent Manchester City from leaving St James’ Park with three points on Tuesday night.

Since being beaten at Leicester on Boxing Day, Pep Guardiola’s City have won all eight games and scored 33 goals in the process to maintain their title chase of Liverpool.

Man City brushed aside Burnley in the FA Cup with a 5-0 home win to advance to the fifth round, and Newcastle – knocked out at home by Watford – face a tall order against the champions.

The sides have met 37 times in the Premier League: Man City have won 23 times, Newcastle seven, and the teams have shared seven draws.

Newcastle vs Manchester City preview: Champions look to put pressure on Liverpool

Manchester City have the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to one point when they face Newcastle on Tuesday (kick-off 8pm).

City have been playing catch-up in recent weeks as Liverpool have had the chance to play first. However, the champions now have the opportunity to apply some pressure with Liverpool facing Leicester on Wednesday.

City are unbeaten in 22 Premier League games against Newcastle, while Sergio Aguero has 14 goals in 12 League appearances versus the Magpies.

Team News

Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy remain out of action for City, while Kevin de Bruyne will be pushing for a start after a fine performance against Burnley.

Manchester City will again be without injured defender Vincent Kompany, who has not played since the 2-1 victory over Liverpool on January 3.

City also have a doubt over left-back Benjamin Mendy, who suffered a slight reaction during his comeback from injury against Burton last week and was not involved in the weekend FA Cup rout of Burnley.

Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Danilo; Fernandinho, D. Silva, B. Silva; Sterling, Aguero, Sane
