Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their worst Premier League defeat in 23 years when they host Huddersfield on Saturday.
The Blues slipped out of the top four after a 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Maurizio Sarri has presided over Chelsea being humiliated in their last two Premier League games and dropping out of the top four, heaping pressure on the manager before the visit of struggling Huddersfield.
Chelsea vs Huddersfield preview: Maurizio Sarri’s side target win
Chelsea must recover from their humiliating demolition at Bournemouth as Maurizio Sarri’s Blues host bottom-of-the-table Bournemouth on Saturday.
Bournemouth stunned Chelsea with a 4-0 win on the south coast in midweek, with the Blues conceding four second-half goals as Sarri led a near hour-long inquest following the defeat.
Sarri’s extraordinary press conference earlier this month had initially seemed to spark Chelsea back into life, but the coach must do it all over again after seeing his side slip out of the top four.
Fortunately for Chelsea, they host a Huddersfield side who have won just two games all season, and look almost certain to be relegated as they sit 12 points adrift of safety.
They guaranteed their top-flight survival in this fixture last season. Stamford Bridge holds plenty of good memories.
Chelsea will assess the fitness of forward Gonzalo Higuain, who has been struggling with a back injury.
Head coach Maurizio Sarri has no other new fitness concerns but could make changes following the 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
Huddersfield’s Philip Billing is set to return after two games out with a knee problem, while new signing Karlan Grant could make his debut up front.
Aaron Mooy returned as a substitute in the midweek defeat at Everton.
Sarri has no injury problems to contend with, but injuries are not his immediate concern.
With motivation looking to be an issue, Sarri may opt to change things up against a weak Huddersfield side.
The likes of David Luiz and Mateo Kovacic could be rested after failing to impress at Bournemouth.
There is also a big question mark over whether Gonzalo Higuain will start – the striker was hauled off in the second half in midweek, and is yet to score in his two starts on loan at Chelsea.
