Manchester City’s title defense continues on Wednesday night as they face a trip to Merseyside to face Everton at Goodison Park.

Following a shock defeat at Newcastle, Pep Guardiola’s champions were back to winning ways as Sergio Aguero hit a hat-trick in Sunday’s 3-1 home win over Arsenal.

Liverpool’s 1-1 draws against Leicester City and West Ham leave Man City just three points behind the leaders.

And a win at Everton would send City top on goal difference – albeit with Liverpool having a game in hand.

Manchester City will have the chance to put some more permanent pressure on Liverpool in the Premier League title race when they face Everton in a rearranged fixture on Wednesday night.

City were not fully punished for their recent slip-up at Newcastle United, and returned to winning ways on Sunday with a comfortable 3-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad.

Originally scheduled for later this month, their clash with Everton has been brought forward as a result of their participation in the EFL Cup final.

And the champions could do damage to two Merseysiders in one game with a win at Goodison Park.
