in what should be an enthralling appetizer for the 2019 Women’s World Cup this summer.
The SheBelievesCup is becoming a major tournament in women’s soccer and this year takes on added importance ahead of the World Cup.
This time, taking part are England, Brazil, Japan and the USA, with all four sides playing each other once.
The tournament starts on Wednesday and runs for a week.
USA are the defending champions of the SheBelievesCup and the only other side to have won it are France, who are not taking part this year.
For England and manager Phil Neville, these matches should provide serious guidance for the World Cup which is now just four months away.
England beat Brazil 1-0 last October, so should be too good in this one.
Brazil, once the best women’s side on the planet, are not the force of old. They come into this match off the back of four defeats.
The round-robin tournament will see England, Brazil, the USA (tournament hosts) and Japan all face each other once, and the team with the most points will be crowned as champions.
The competition is now in its fourth year and has been won by the USA in 2016 and 2018, and by Germany in 2017.
Team News of England Women vs Brazil Women
England kick off their SheBelieves Cup campaign facing Brazil for the second time in five games in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
Having finished as runners-up in last year’s four-team event, Phil Neville’s Lionesses are back in the USA looking to go one better to provide the ideal preparation for the World Cup this summer.
Neville is determined to use the competition to prepare his side for their first major tournament under his stewardship,
with the 2015 World Cup winners USA, as well as runners-up Japan, also taking part in this build-up competition.
Ahead of the game against Brazil, which kicks off at 9pm UK time, he told the FA’s website: “There are four great teams, playing in great stadiums, with great crowds.
All four nations are among the top 10 in the FIFA rankings so we know we’ll be tested and need to be at our best in all three matches.
The tournament is likely to provide some happy memories for Neville,
whose first game in charge of the women’s national team came in the SheBelieves Cup last year, where he led England to a 4-1 win over France.
Neville has a full squad to pick from ahead of the Lionesses’ first SheBelieves Cup game of 2019, after Chioma Ubogagu replaced the injured Jill Scott over the weekend.
